Reading muscle signals for real-time control.

Undergraduate Research Assistant, Physiology of Wearable Robotics Lab, May 2025 to present

Designed the EMG acquisition protocols behind 50+ human-subject studies and built the MATLAB pipelines that turn raw muscle signals into analysis and control.

What

EMG acquisition protocols and MATLAB analysis and control pipelines for the Physiology of Wearable Robotics Lab.

Why

Human-subject studies need consistent EMG recordings and a reliable path from raw signal to control.

How

  • Designed the acquisition protocols used across studies
  • MATLAB pipelines for time-series analysis and real-time control

Results

  • Protocols behind 50+ human-subject studies

From muscle to control signal

Raw EMG is noisy and signed. Rectify it, low-pass it into an envelope, then threshold the envelope with hysteresis to get a clean on/off command a device can act on.

Raw EMG, envelope, control signal
Rectify, low-pass, threshold. Illustrative signal, not study data.

Acquisition protocols

Designed the EMG acquisition protocols used across 50+ human-subject studies.

Analysis pipelines

MATLAB pipelines for time-series analysis and real-time control, from raw recordings to a usable control signal.
